I decided recently that, like any home, my dollhouse was in need of an update and a fresh new look. And so began my miniature Maileg home renovation project.
I went for a light, bright, Scandi aesthetic, painting the house in an off-white eggshell paint and adding some new "wallpaper". On the top floor, I used Maileg's new Heather Merle gift wrap, and on the ground floor, I chose Maileg's Berry Branches design. The delicate patterns are just the right scale for dolls house wallpaper.
Take a look at the newly renovated Ikea house and then we'll go through each room in turn.
Bedroom
Let's start in the bedroom. I kept my favourite Maileg vintage bed in rose and added some of the new pieces from Maileg's spring summer 2024 collection to update the look.
For a touch of style and practicality, I stacked a couple of Maileg's new miniature suitcases on top of each other to create a handy table and storage area.
The larger stool from the Maileg stool set looks great as a charming bedside table.
Some of my favourite pieces from the latest collection are the new rocking chairs. Here's Little Sister Ballerina relaxing in her new rocking chair in powder.
A few little non-Maileg miniatures really bring the bedroom to life. I created a reading nook for little sister mouse with some miniature books from a shop called 'Landau House' on Etsy. The 'vase' is just the top of a cosmetics bottle and the flowers are 10mm paper flowers normally used in crafting or for scrapbooking. You can find these on Amazon or in large craft stores. And if you're wondering about the table in the picture, it's actually an upturned crate from the Maileg fruit and veg set.
Bathroom
Moving on to the bathroom, you'll see the lovely new Maileg sink dresser in mint featuring a sink with taps, mirror, and a handy storage cupboard. If pink's more your thing, there's also a sink dresser in powder. The smaller stool from the wooden stool set makes the perfect step for baby mouse to climb on to reach the sink.
I added some non-Maileg bits in the bathroom too. The vintage style sign on the right is from an Etsy store called SarahsLilEssentials. They sell a whole host of miniature wall decor and dolls house miniatures, in a shabby chic, cottage style. The little hanging Liberty fabric banner is from OhSewRosieHandmade, also on Etsy.
A crochet bath mat and a wooden shelf make perfect accessories for the bathroom. I love these wooden shelves - they are so versatile and can be used in any room for hanging and storing bits and bobs. The toilet is a welcome (and very necessary!) addition to Maileg's furniture range.
Kitchen
Now, let's check out the kitchen. The metal kitchen in dark green is a standout piece, in my opinion. This dark green version is very much like an AGA that you'd find in a country cottage kitchen. It features an oven (complete with a loaf of bread), a storage cupboard, and also a sink with taps. It also comes in a light brown colour.
A cooler, washing machine and rug complete the kitchen area.
Dining area
I created a dining area with a Maileg dining table and, rather than using Maileg's gold chairs as seating, I went for a more informal wooden bench instead. The little rabbit can join in with family mealtimes now that he has a perfectly sized high chair. (If you are familiar with Maileg you may remember that the previous style of high chair was rather oversized.)
