Welcome to the second part of my Ikea Mouse House hack. In part 1 we built the our Ikea Flisat dolls house and now we are going to have fun decorating it! With a lick of paint and some Maileg gift wrap as wallpaper, we are going transform this basic wooden dolls house/shelf into a stunning home for our Maileg mice.
As you can see in the picture, the house comes unpainted apart from the green chimney. Of course, you could leave your house exactly as it is, but if you'd like to make it a little more cosy and unique, you may want to add some exterior and interior decoration.
For my Ikea dolls house makeover, I began by painting the exterior and interior walls and the roof with an eggshell paint to give a soft sheen finish. I used some Farrow and Ball eggshell estate in the colour Blue Gray no. 91. Alternatively, you could use artist's acrylic paint. I like Liquitex's heavy body paint but you can buy cheaper acrylic paints such as Hobbycraft's own brand.
Then I mixed a little red and white acrylic paint to create a pretty pink shade and used that to paint the dividing wall on the upper floor.
Of course, that green chimney had to go! I painted over the chimney with a dark grey acrylic paint.
So that's the house built and painted. Next comes the wallpaper!
